Textured Vase
Vessels of Transformation series: This series explores the transition from the shadows of the ego to the joy of our authentic nature.
In this vase, I am exploring the textures of the surrounding landscape—the rugged, unrefined beauty of the soil and the earth. While much of my work celebrates the vibrant resilience of wildflowers, this vase is a tribute to the source. It is about the foundation of our own transformations: the raw, honest, and sometimes jagged places from which our truest selves grow.
This is a one-off, hand-built ceramic vessel. To create the deep, rugged character of the surface, I have moved away from smooth glazes and vibrant colors, focusing instead on the physical sensation of the landscape.
The vase features a highly organic, jagged rim and deep-seated ridges that mimic the ancient stone and weathered earth of my surroundings. The muted tones of charcoal, grey, and cream highlight the natural peaks and valleys of the clay, inviting you to touch and connect with the piece.
