Poppy Candle Holder — Handmade Irish Ceramic | Cailleach Dhearg

Poppy Candle Holder — Handmade Irish Ceramic | Cailleach Dhearg
The Irish called it cailleach dhearg, the Red Hag , and once named it the Witches Flower for its habit of appearing where it had no right to be, blazing from field edges, pushing through cracks in the stone, refusing to be tamed. This handbuilt stoneware candle holder captures that defiant spirit. Bold red poppies and butterflies, painted in vivid underglaze, finish in a glossy transparent glaze, with Raquel’s hidden ladybird somewhere among the blooms.
As the candle burns, the light plays across the flowers, the red deepens, the butterflies seem almost to move. The wide, round base makes it safe for tealights or small pillar candles; wax collects in the base and lifts out cleanly once cooled.
